The rule is simple: complete the Sudoku puzzle so that each and every row, column, and region contains the numbers 1 through 9 only once. No number is allowed to be duplicated or omitted.

1. Rows of 9 numbers must include all digits in any order (see red frame)

2. Columns of 9 numbers must include all these digits in any order (green)

3. Every 3x3 region of the 9x9 game table must include all these digits (yellow).

The numbers shown in the above example are the "givens". These numbers can not be changed. You solve the puzzle by filling in the empty cells with a single number from all the possible candidates that doesn't violate the rules.

In this example, we begin playing by scanning the puzzle. It doesn't matter where you start. We suggest looking for the number that has several "givens". The more givens of a particular number often means that it will be easier to solve. In this case you can see that there are four number fours (4) and offer a starting point. Do not forget to check the 5's on this table... You are on the right track in learning how to play when you are able to solve most cells using this method.

Sudoku is solvable. A properly prepared puzzle only has one solution but when you set your level of difficulty to extreme high anything can happen at any time. Try us and yourself, it is fun. Normally there isn't any need to guess although you will be tempted at times. It is interesting to note that the location and combination of givens and not the quantity of givens that make a puzzle easy or hard.
